January 20, 1946 — December 25, 2022

Bastrop

Virginia Paredes, age 76, passed away at her home on Sunday December 25th, 2022, in Bastrop, Texas.

Virginia was born on January 20th, 1946, in Lyndon, Kansas to Arthur and Loretta Watchous.  She was the youngest of 13 children.

She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Loretta, and siblings Helen Carver, Eleanor Wyman, Fern Warren, Teddy Watchous, Albert Watchous, Geraldine Boyd, Patricia Isom, Bonnie Trude, Barbara Harris, Mildred King, Bertha Asay, and Kenneth Watchous

Virginia attended schools in Lyndon and graduated in 1964 from Lyndon High School.

On April 11th, 1968, Virginia married Americo Paredes Jr. of the US Air Force. They remained married for 56 years until her death.  They lived in Topeka, Kansas and then moved to Austin, Texas where Americo was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base.  In 1973, they became foster parents and adopted their twins, David Nathan and Nicole Dawn. As they built this family, Americo's Air Force career took them to various places. They were stationed in various places, Fort Worth, TX, Germany (Zweibrucken AFB), Idaho (Mt. Home AFB), England (RAF Upper Heyford), Alabama (Maxwell AFB), Spain (Torrejon AFB), and eventually back in Austin at Bergstrom. Virginia enjoyed traveling and learning new cultures.

Virginia was a devoted wife and enjoyed the Air Force lifestyle. She was recognized for her work as an Air Force wife achieving various accolades for her work with various squadron functions. At various squadron picnics, I do recall she made the best potato salad every single time..we never had leftovers.

She was a devoted Mom to David and Nikki, participated in school functions and sporting events. She was the best mom ever and we will miss her immensely. She was an amazing grandma to Erica and James; they were the light of her life. In 2013, she became a great grandma to Isaac Fabian, then welcomed her great granddaughters Gabriella and Nataliah Fabian. She always enjoyed her holidays surrounded by family.

Virginia is survived by husband Americo Paredes Jr., son David, daughter Nicole (Jesse), grandchildren Erica and James Paredes, great grandchildren Isaac, Gabriella, and Nataliah Fabian. She is also survived by numerous family members, nieces, and nephews.
