Shirley Thorne

August 3, 1946 — November 26, 2021

Bastrop, Texas

Shirley was born August 3, 1946, in Bastrop, TX, the fourth child of Albert and Mattie Thorne. They are awaiting her entrance into the Pearlie Gates. Also preceding her death is her niece, Sharon Kay Thorne Randle.

Shirley gave her life to Christ at the age of 9 at Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church, Bastrop, TX, she was baptized by Rev. D.M. Hall. Shirley graduated from Emile High School in the Class of 1964. After graduation she pursued several careers: Medical Lab Technician; Medical Doctor Receptionist and completed her career at IBM after 25 years as a Computer Programmer. She always sought her independence, that was something we learned early in life. Shirley lived a life of fun and laughter the way she wanted. The people she met and the lives she touched, Shirley enjoyed being around them and tried to make them feel a part of her life. Helping people has been something she has always enjoyed and was taught that as a child. You have to share and be kind to others. Help as many people as you can in any way you can. She accomplished that, it was part of her daily practice. After her first diagnosis of cancer, she volunteered at the American Cancer Society for 10 years until she had some health problems. It was a rewarding experience for her knowing she could touch someone's life in the same situation. You never know what a small favor you are doing for someone in need.

Shirley leaves to mourn her passing brothers, Charles Thorne of San Antonio, TX and Tommy Thorne of Tigard, Oregon; sisters, Arlene Leonard of San Antonio, TX and Alwin Thorne of Bastrop, TX. My nephews, Ivan Thorne of Ft. Myers, FL, Cavin Leonard of San Antonio, TX, Eric Thorne of San Antonio, TX, Darryl Thorne of Warren, MI; one niece, Donya Claycamp of Elizabeth, KY; Shirley's great nieces and nephews, Tiffany Balderamos, Bryan Thorne, Desiree Thorne, Brittany Leonard, Isiah Thorne, lsiack Thorne, Jason Randale; one great-great nephew, Lucas Balderamos; and niece, Alana Balderamos.
