Patricia Ann Griggs
December 12, 1940 – July 30, 2021
Patricia Ann Griggs, “Pat”, “Mother-Dearest”, “Nanny”, “Bucket”, “Crab-Claws”; “Princess” was born December 12, 1940 in Norfolk, VA to the late Hilda Serena Edwards and Irvin Lee Edwards Sr; and she was the oldest of her 7 siblings. She left this earthly life at 80 years of age due to injuries received in a car accident and has gone to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven above. Pat is preceded in death by her husband John Robert Griggs. Pat was a native of VA, and still considered it home; but moved to TX in 2009 after her husband of 53 yrs passed away.
Pat is survived by her daughter, son-in-law and grandson Patricia Ann, Robert and John Burnham of Cedar Creek, TX; 4 sisters Linda Edwards Dixon; Charlotte Clayton; Judy Salyers; Sharon Edwards and 3 brothers Irvin “Bo”, Jack and Ralph Edwards. She had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members whom she loved dearly, and numerous “adopted” children and grandchildren whom she thought of as her own. Her very special friend Mary Ann Lee who she was friends with for 75 yrs was like part of the family.
Pat was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother and a friend to anyone she met. She made her career as a housewife and mother until 1987 when she went to work at Smith & Welton Dept Store in Norfolk, VA after her daughter started college. After she moved to TX, she worked as a baker for Sodexo at Concordia University. Pat had many interests and hobbies, and she was happiest when she was caring for others. She enjoyed plants and flowers, baking and cake decorating, crochet, playing canasta, shopping at her favorite stores Macy’s and Sam’s Club, going to music concerts from Classical to Christian Rock, having coffee with her friends, studying her Bible and going to church, spending time with her daughter and grandson, and taking care of the sweet ladies in her Widow’s Support Group whom she cherished so much. In her younger days, she liked to go fishing and boating, jogging, and she was an outstanding league bowler for many years. She always stayed physically fit and active, and nothing could stop her from getting things done!
She loved children of all ages, animals and caring for the elderly. Her patient, loving, tender kindness and gracious spirit was a part of everything she said and did. Pat always had time to listen, and care for others. Her ministry came in many forms: mission trips to Brazil; organizing a widow’s support group at FBC Bastrop; writing letters to people in jail & prison; feeding the homeless and hungry; talking and listening to anyone who needed a friend; baking cookies and cakes to take to nursing homes or give to friends; caring tirelessly for sick friends and family; traveling to parts of TX & LA to wash clothes and make food for storm and fire victims who were in need, and dying her hair pink every October in support of Breast cancer awareness month.
Pat was a genuine friend with a gracious and kind spirit. She was gentle, fun and always a lady; and she loved without expecting anything in return. Pat was the true meaning of a Christian woman, and she loved her Lord and Savior with all her heart. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bastrop; and before moving to TX, a long-time member of Faith Temple Pentecostal Church in Norfolk, VA. She also considered the pastor and church family at Inspirational Pentecostal Church in Bastrop to be a second church home.
Pat is loved and missed dearly by anyone who knew her, but we know that she is in the presence of her Savior for eternity.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Friday August 6, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Bastrop, TX at 1201 Water Street at 2:00pm.
