Louise Schmitz

June 20, 1928 — September 11, 2022

Bastrop

Our family and friends wish to honor Louise Ruth Schmitz, as her life has been a testament to a "good life well lived." Louise, Mom, Grandma, and Grandmommie led a full and independent life with grace and service to her Lord and Savior. Louise was truly a woman of strong faith, and was steadfast to her very last breath. God places these special ladies in our presence as a sign of His love for all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Louise was born on June 20,1928 to Lewis and Margaret Brown in Kennydale, Washington and passed away on September 10, 2022 at her home in Bastrop, Texas. Louise married Alfred "Buddy" Schmitz in Austin, Texas on September 11, 1947. Her family now includes three children, daughters, Barbara Worden, and Joanne Macon and husband, Richard Macon, and son, Alfred Schmitz, Jr. and his wife, Jeannette Schmitz. Her legacy includes ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Louise was blessed to experience five generations of kids. A truly remarkable accomplishment.

Louise was a partner of a well known fishing team on Lake Bastrop for many years and was an avid fisherwoman that few could compare or compete with. Louise and Buddy could be found spending so much of their time together doing what they so loved. Louise was also a proud gardener with a green thumb for growing plants. She was also known for being able to make wedding dresses and halloween costume that her granddaughters would ask for. From an M&M to witches and princess outfits. Her baking skills were superb and we all will miss her pecan pie. And which of us won't forget the special taste of her sugar cookies. Louise was one of the oldest living member if not the oldest member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas. To her last days, she attended Sunday service regularly. She was also the last woman to be voted Mother of the Year by St. Luke and was so pleased to be honored.

Mom had become a very independent person, and even at the age of 94, drove from her home into Bastrop to wash clothes and shop for her groceries. She passed away in her home as she always said she wanted to. She took great pride in caring for herself, much as she had cared for the love of her life for many years as Dad depended on her for his care. It would be impossible to find anyone who ever met her that didn't instantly know that she was a remarkable person. Her family loved her dearly.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas.
