We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home
Lorenzo Juarez, 85, passed on July 21, 2022 surrounded by family. He was born in Jose Maria Morelos, Pinos, Zacatecas, Mexico. He was a hard-working man and taught his children the value of hard work, saving for a rainy day and the importance of family.
Although he only had a 2nd grade education, he was smart and great at doing math in his head. He was a great story teller and loved socializing with friends and family. Friends would come over just to have him tell and act out a story.
He immigrated to the United States as a coal miner during the Vietnam war due to the shortage of men available to work. He worked as a migrant worker and traveled all over the United States. He worked at anything and everything he could find. He ended up in Elgin at the brick yard where he encountered Vernon Grady Tuck. Mr. Tuck was looking for someone to help with maintenance at Lake Bastrop Acres, this was the beginning of his new life and he eventually settled in Bastrop, TX where he worked for Vernon Tuck for many years and they became very good friends and later Vernon officially becoming part of the family when he married a cousin (Odilia Juarez Tuck). He also worked as a machinist for Pathfinder until 1986 when the company closed. He than went to work and retired from the City of Bastrop. With his spare time, he was a rancher, he loved cattle.
Lorenzo supported his entire family; parents, siblings, wife and children. His siblings credit him for their subsequent migration to the United States and claim he was a father figure to them all. He did not only help his family but any stranger in need and although we didn’t have much, countless times he would bring home strangers in need. He would make sure that they were fed and rested before sending them on their way. Always saying “Esta es su casa” (this is your home).
He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Isabel, mother Natividad, his beloved first wife and mother to all his children, Manuela, 2nd wife Berta, sister Licha and 2 sons, Lorenzo Jr. and Carlos Vernon.
He is survived by his children: Aurelio (Angela), Mary Rivas (Eddie), Samuel (Rosa), Margarito, Rebecca Lopez (Eduardo), Julia Vazquez (Anthony), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. 3 sisters: Santos, Anita, Aurora and 3 brothers: Antonio, Francisco and Javier and by countless nephews, nieces and cousins.
