June Burnette

February 10, 1938 — August 19, 2021

Bastrop, Texas

June Beatrice Burnette went to be with the Lord on August 19, 2021. Born to Roy and Beatrice Licence in Blackpool, England on February 10, 1938, she emigrated to the United States in 1970, becoming a U.S. citizen in 1997. June married the love of her life, Jimmy Burnette, in 1974. June was a beautifully elegant woman. “Mama June” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she loved them all deeply. June was an accomplished Pre-K teacher at Montessori in Floyd County. Later in life she was a cruise director, participating in nearly fifty cruises all over the world. Perhaps, as a result of spending her early years in bomb shelters during the Battle of Britain, she was always available to help anyone she could. June was deeply involved with her church family at Awake Wesleyan Church in Zephyrhills, Florida until she moved to Bastrop, Texas, in 2019 to be with her daughter, Susan, and son-in-law, Darrel.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy; her parents, Roy and Beatrice Licence; her son, Paul Shields and granddaughter, Mary Patricia Campbell.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Marks, and son-in-law, Darrel Brown; granddaughter Karen Cagle; great grandchildren Calla Jones, Bryan Wilson, Robert Perkins and Savannah Perkins; and her extended Texas family, Conor and Kira Brown and children, Kyla and David.

A celebration of June Burnette’s life will be held at Awake Wesleyan Church in Zephyrhills, Florida on September 17, 2021, at 4:00 pm.
