Obituary

Jimmy Dwight Reid, age 71, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away peacefully of natural causes at St. David’s Hospital on August 13, 2021 with his children at this side.

He was born on March 17th 1950, in Bastrop, to John Benjamin (J.B.) Reid and Lou Vellor Sturdivant Reid. He was a lifelong rancher in Cedar Creek, Texas. He worked at LCRA, and later the American Legion before retiring. Jim graduated from Bastrop High School in 1968 and attended college at Blinn Junior College and University of Texas at Austin majoring in accounting. He also coached Bastrop Little League, the Bastrop County 4H State Hay judging team, horse judging and was the 4H District 10 Outstanding Volunteer of the year. His greatest love was watching his children accomplish their goals and his grandkids play sports. He led all of his kids through various 4H and FFA livestock projects.
 

Jim was preceded in death by his daughter Christa Leanne Reid, his parents, brothers; Johnny B. Reid, Donald Gene Reid and sisters; Bennie Lou Alexander, and Essie Ann Richards.

He is survived by his children, Ryan Thomas Reid and wife Shannon, Brett Alan Reid and daughter Alysa Reid Johnson and husband Kyle Johnson, sisters Theo B. Gray, Billie Marie Robinson, Mary Lucy Stephens and brother-in-law Cliff Stephens. He is also survived by four grandchildren Fallon, Easton, Audrey, and Mikah Johnson, numerous nieces and nephews, and former wife, Kay Thomas Reid.
 

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 1:00pm 1:30pm in the chapel of Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home followed by a graveside service in Upper Cedar Creek Cemetery at 2:00pm.
