Jimmie Bloodsworth

January 22, 1950 — December 11, 2021

Cedar Creek, Texas

Jimmie Lee Bloodsworth, 71, of Cedar Creek, Texas, passed away on December 11th, 2021 after a long battle with various health issues. His last days were spent surrounded by his wife, family, friends, beautiful music, and his favorite coconut cream pie.

Jimmie was born in Pitkin, Louisiana on January 22, 1950, to Zeno and Thelma (Willis) Bloodsworth. He was the 5th of their 7 children and later gained 3 more half-siblings. Jimmie’s childhood was difficult to say the least. His mother passed away when he was 4 years old, his father abandoned him, and he was bounced from home to home.

Jimmie found stability when his cousin, Mary Green, and DC Johnson, took him in and raised him. At 10 years old he experienced a culture shock when they moved to New York City. After several years he and Mary Green moved back to Louisiana but faced more difficulties and returned to NYC to work with DC in a paper bag factory. Jimmie had a love for classic cars and acquired his beloved 1967 Camaro Rally Sport during his time in NYC.

Jimmie eventually returned to Louisiana where he worked various jobs until he found his profession working in the produce department. He had a talent for turning fruits and vegetables into beautiful arrangements, almost too pretty to eat! During this time, he married, had one daughter Donna Nell and  two sons Rocky & Jimmie Dale, found Jesus, and devoted his life to ministry by pastoring several churches and doing prison ministry in Louisiana.

In 1988 he moved to Texas and married the love of his life, Sue, in 1989. Even from another state, he was a committed father, visiting his sons often and taking in Sue’s daughter, Michelle, as his own. He attended Austin Community College in 1990 studying electronics repair. They welcomed their only child, Heather, in 1992.

Jimmie was a musician, biker and a hard worker who didn’t know a stranger. He did various jobs in produce, insurance sales, security and school bus driver to make ends meet while he pursued multiple ministries throughout Austin, Texas. His love of music and Jesus came together when his band “Jimmie, Sue, and Mother May Belle” ministered through music in nursing homes around the city. Jimmie and Sue’s most successful ministry was with Crestview Baptist Church and the Austin Housing Authority, where they started church community programs in 5 low-income housing complexes. The first and main location was Georgian Manor Community Church, which served as an example for the rest.

All those years in produce eventually caught up to him, resulting in many years of pain and medical procedures. Jimmie was a persistent man, whose health required him to step down from full-time ministry, but it didn’t stop him from serving the Lord through various street, prison, and facebook ministries. It definitely did not stop him from developing a deeper bond with two of his nephews, Bobby Lee and Ricky, enjoying every minute he could with his family playing music, fishing, traveling, taking care of the many animals, watching Cowboy and Longhorn football, selling fireworks and sharing the word of God.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Nell; parents, Zeno and Thelma and adopted parents Mary Green and DC Johnson; as well as brothers: Bobby and James; sisters: Maurice, Nevelene, Sue, and Helen Marie.

Jimmie is survived by his wife, Sue (Jones) of 32 years; sons: Rocky (Gretna), Jimmie Dale (Christina); daughters: Michelle (David) and Heather (Joe); Grandchildren: Lonzie, Thomas, Tavia, Channing, Sheri, Keri, Savannah, Summer, Michael, Dalton, Henry, Jack, Brantley and Andrew; 20 great grandchildren; sisters: Daurice and Judy; brother: Darrell; and many nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
