James Griffith Jr.

James “Jim” Eugene Griffith, Jr. age 79 of Bastrop passed away on June 4, 2022.

James was born in Giddings, TX on May 24, 1943. He grew up in Bastrop and graduated from Bastrop High School in 1962. James married his wife Lillie Marie Wilson on September 7, 1963. He served 6 years in the Army National Guard and worked for Shell Pipeline until age 55. During his life, he had many hobbies, including training labrador retrievers in field trials, running, owning a fitness center, hosting the first breakdance contest at Bastrop Homecoming, and initiating the first Texas High School powerlifting competitions and later hosting powerlifting meets at the local, state, and national level. He had a love of collecting antiques, anything with buffalos on it, coins, etc. James had a special place for those less fortunate and helped many young people throughout his early forties. He had an attraction to buffalo and bison and his dream was to own one.

James was a good and loving husband, father, & Pawpaw and he loved his family fiercely. He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of honesty, respect, and hard work. He will be greatly missed and we will strive to carry his many lessons with us the rest of our days.

James is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillie Griffith; children, Travis Griffith of Blanco, Kevin & Susan Sieve of Bertram, Tonya & Jim Stubbs of College Station, Tracy & Lee Neef of Wimberley; grandchildren, Brandon, Cody & Nikki, JR & Emily, George & Charlotte, Madison, Logan, & Taylor; great-grandchildren, Adam, Anna, Emerlyn, and Adley; brother, Mike & Sylvia Griffith and numerous nieces and nephews.

James was predeceased by his parents, James and Dorsie Griffith; & infant son, Chad Eugene Griffith.
