Grace Moors

October 6, 1925 — June 6, 2019

Bastrop

Grace was born in Galveston, Texas on October 6, 1925 to Raymond and Sylvia Johnson. She had an older brother named Raymond and an older sister named Delores.

She had fond memories growing up as a child and was in a loving family.

Grace was a very social teenager who enjoyed gatherings at the beach with her friends, and got a special joy from singing. During WWII, she and her sister, Delores, joined a group that would provide music, singing, and dancing for the many service men arriving from the ports in Galveston.

In 1942, she graduated from Dominican High School at the age of 16.  Several years later, she found a job as a secretary where she met Joe Moors. After a brief courtship Grace married Joe on April 7, 1945 at the age of 19.  Shortly after their marriage, Joe moved Grace to Houston where they raised a large family of 10 children consisting of 6 sons: Joseph, Raymond, Ronald, William, Robert, Michael; and 4 daughters: Carol Keener, Maria Carey, Judy Leath, and Donna Lafary.

After raising their family in Houston, Joe moved the family to Bastrop to live on a ranch. The country life was a very different life for Grace, but it was one she soon grew to love. On the ranch she enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, and learned much about raising cattle. She was a great cook and her family often enjoyed many family BBQs.

Grace also had another great love and that was helping others learn about Jehovah and the wonderful hope he has given us.  She valued her ministry very much. Later she took on the challenge of learning sign language just so she could help translate the Christian meetings for the hearing impaired. Even in her later years, when she could no longer go door to door, she would write letters to those who could not be reached personally.  Grace and Joe joined the Smithville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses around1987 where she faithfully attended until her death.

Grace died at the Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas on the afternoon of June 6, 2019.  She is survived by her 10 children, 20 grandchildren and 19+ great grandchildren.

According to Grace’s directives, her remains will be cremated and buried at the High Grove Cemetery which overlooks her former ranch.
