Gerhard Kurt Frenzel

Gerhard Kurt Frenzel was born January 26, 1949 in Germany to Karl and Katharina (Frank) Frenzel.

Gerhard and his parents immigrated to the United States in May of 1952.  He grew up in Hockley, Texas on a dairy farm and attended school in Waller.  He graduated in 1967.

Gerhard joined the United States Air Force in December 1967.  He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant when he was discharged after 23 ½ years with the USAF.

While stationed in Thailand, he met his beautiful and loving wife, Sommai of 52 years.  He couldn’t speak Thai and she couldn’t speak English, but they fell in love anyway.

During Gerhard’s career, he served overseas in Thailand for 1 ½ years, Vietnam for 1 year and Saudi Arabia for 1 year.

Gerhard has 3 children who he loves dearly.

He is survived by his wife Sommai; daughters, Nitchakarn Marie (Frenzel) Kutach and husband Darren, Annette Marie Frenzel; son, Dist Robert Frenzel and his wife Peou; grandchildren,

Nicholas Wayne Rodriguez and wife Veronica, Maddison Serin Frenzel, Matthew Quang Frenzel, Bryan Torres Wood Jr. and wife Phoenix, Timothy Soeung and wife Ysel, Justin Soeung and Darin Soeung; great grandchild, Mary Celeste Meyer; sisters,

Ellanore Bolten Ayala and husband Juan, Marie Reed and husband Jerry; Numerous nieces and nephews.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents Karl and Katharina Frenzel.

Gerhard felt his greatest accomplishments were being a mentor for AA and delivering meals for Meals on Wheels.

In lieu of flowers please donate to your local St. Jude’s, Meals on Wheels and Salvation Army.


Family and friends will gather from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Marrs Jones Newby Funeral Home.  The Celebration of Kurt 's life will begin at 3:00pm and will end with Military Honors.

The funeral home is located at 505 Old Austin Highway in Bastrop, Texas.
