Edward Huckman

Edward Lewis Huckman, 73, of Bastrop, Texas passed away on October 31, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 6, 1948, to John and Daphine Huckman, being the youngest of four children. Growing up in Victoria, Texas, Ed enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He attended Victoria High School and enlisted in the Army in April 1967. He served for three years before receiving an honorable discharge. While in the Army he earned several decorations including National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Overseas Service Bars, and a Combat Infantryman Badge, while assigned to the 1st Cavalry Air Mobile Division.

Following his service to his country, Ed became a police officer in Houston for some time. Then, he traveled to Kansas and began his career as a correctional officer at the United States Penitentiary Leavenworth. Years later, Ed settled in Bastrop as correctional officer at the Federal Prison System until his retirement. He married Pam Roubison Clampit on February 21, 1986 in Smithville. Through the years, Ed and Pam shared a great passion for having German Shepherd dogs. He truly enjoyed the companionship with each dog and all the memories. Good judgement, sound morals, and big shoulders to lean on defined Ed’s character as he was always willing to help others. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and watching the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. To his friends and family, he offered sound advice, comedy relief, and was the best story teller. He took great pride in being a husband, dad, step-dad, brother, and enjoyed visits with his grandchildren. His thoughtfulness of sending flowers to Pam and mailing cards on special occasions to his family were just a few examples of his kindness. Ed was a CASA volunteer from 2005-2009 and received Volunteer of the Year in 2008. He was a life member of the VFW Post 2281 and a member of the American Legion Post 18 in Thermopolis, Wyoming.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years Pam Clampit, son Kelly Huckman (Mary Anne) and 3 grandsons Alex, Edward, and Max of Austin; step-son Rusty Clampit (Melissa), Haley and Braden of Gonzales. He is also survived by his brother John Huckman, Jr. (Karlene) of Thermopolis, Wyoming and sister Brenda Newton (Ronnie) of Richardson, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Diane.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held 10 a.m., November 20, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be mailed to German Shepherd Rescue of Central Texas, PO Box 3184, Cedar Park, Texas 78630.
