David Anderson

January 25, 1940 — August 30, 2022

David Woodrow Anderson was called home by the Holy Spirit on August 30, 2022. David was born in Austin, TX on January 25, 1940 to Woodrow David and Genevieve Anderson, both descendants of Swedish immigrants, who settled in the great State of Texas in the late 1800’s.

David and Melva Sue Houck both attended Manor schools and were married on July 29, 1960 and were together until his death for 62 glorious years. David and Melva settled in Bastrop, Texas where they raised their two children, Pamela Sue Anderson (Pribble) and David Dwight Anderson.

David started his career at Binswanger Glass Company in the late fifties and worked with them until he started his own glass business in 1986, Town & Country Glass and Mirror. He grew the business to a highly successful, 24 hour, 7 day a week glass and mirror business serving Bastrop, Hays, and Travis counties for more than 20 years. He finally retired from the glass business in 2006 and he and Melva moved to Rockport, Texas to be near the water, where he always found peace and tranquility. After a couple intense hurricane seasons, David and Melva decided to go inland and moved to Belton, Texas where they lived out the last 15 years of their lives together.

David was an avid gardener and no matter where he lived, he always created the most beautiful landscapes and spent countless hours tending to his flowers and his plants. He also loved to watch the birds, raccoons, squirrels and other wild animals and likely bought several tons of bird seed and animal feed over the years ensuring that the little critters nearby were well fed.

David is survived by his wife, Melva of 62 years; his daughter, Pamela Sue Anderson Pribble and her husband, Chuck Pribble; and his son, David Dwight Anderson and his wife, Monica Anderson; three grandchildren Chuck Pribble, Jr. and his wife, Julie, Courtney Anderson and her husband, Ryan Canady, and Chelsea Pribble. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Noack and Rebecca Klaus. David was preceded in death by both of his parents and two sisters.

“Daddy” loved his family dearly and he considered his family a gift from God. He had a generous heart and he always gave anyone who needed it an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on and the time it took for both. He always put those he loved ahead of anything and everything. He would sacrifice himself for the betterment of the occasion and give it all he had. He never quit and was determined to see what needed to be accomplished, all the way through. He was the strength that everyone in the family could rely upon: steady, strong and sure no matter what.

He loved the Lord and God Almighty and he and mom started their days in scripture, thanking the lord for the many blessings they had in life and praying for their family, those in need and our glorious country. He had an unwavering commitment to his Christian values and faith. His favorite Bible verses came from Philippians, Chapter 4. He was quick to draw upon these, along with many others when lending a helping hand to someone. He always said that when he entered heaven, he could be found where the gospel choir is singing his favorite hymnals, especially Amazing Grace. He is singing with the choir right now and cheering us all on to finish this race upon earth and to finish it well!

We miss you honey, we miss you daddy, we miss you Papa: We miss your laugh (oh, that belly laugh), we miss your wisdom, we miss your guidance, we miss your strong sense of purpose, we miss your ability to see the beauty in all things natural, we miss your charity toward all of gods’ creatures and most of all we selfishly miss you here with us right now, though we know that it was time for you to be called home to your father, the holy spirit, where you could join the angels in heaven, who are watching over us and keeping us safe and in the spirit of the lord, Jesus Christ our Savior in Heaven.
