Charlotte Elta McMahon

May 20, 1939 ~ February 5, 2022 (age 82)

On February 5, 2022, Charlotte Elta McMahon (Ms. McMahon} passed peacefully in her sleep from this life to the next. She was 82 years old.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Wayne McMahon; and her parents, Wade Lamar Wallace, Sr. and Mabel M. Robertson Wallace.

She is survived by her two sons, Russell McMahon and William McMahon.  She is also survived by her brothers, Wade L. Wallace, Jr., John D. Wallace, Joe R. Wallace and her sister, Jane Campos, and their families. She leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Charlotte McMahon was born May 20, 1939, in Pensacola, Florida. Being raised in a military family, she lived in many places during her early life. After her marriage to Wayne McMahon, she moved to Deweyville, Texas, where she raised her family. While living in Deweyville, she worked at the Deweyville Elementary School as the school’s secretary for many years. She absolutely loved that job and poured her heart and soul into it. It is not a stretch of the truth to say she was a beloved figure at the school and touched hundreds of lives during her tenure there. Everyone affectionately called her “Ms. McMahon”, and they still do to this day. Charlotte cherished the memories of seeing the young students grow into adulthood.

Upon retirement, Ms. McMahon moved to Bastrop, Texas. During her retirement years, she spent most of her time with family. She also enjoyed traveling with her two sons. Her favorite trip was the one she took with them to Alaska. Her most enjoyable days were those when family and friends came to visit. Charlotte was an avid reader and had a life-long love for books. She loved fishing with family, and cooking; but most of all she loved doing for other people. Her family was, and still is, very proud of her. It is impossible to capture in words the quality of person she was.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, a monetary donation be made in her name to the Deweyville Elementary School Library. Or, a favorite age-appropriate book may be donated in her name to the school library. Nothing would honor her life more than a gift to the school she loved so much. A memorial service celebrating her life is being planned by her family to take place at a future date.
