Charles Joseph Stanek, Jr.

December 15, 1941 — February 8, 2022

Bastrop

Charles Joseph Stanek, Jr. passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday evening, February 8, 2022, at the age of 80 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 15, 1941, in Everson, Pennsylvania to Julia Ann (Sikon) Stanek and Charles Joseph Stanek. He attended Scottdale High School where he met and married the love of his life, Nancy Jean Curtis.  Charles and Nancy raised their five children in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. After working for several years for the United States Steel Corporation, he then worked faithfully for over twenty-five years as an electrician at Duraloy Technologies in Scottdale, PA.  In his free time he loved playing football, golfing, bowling, dancing and reading.

Charles was a family man. He adored his wife and children and gave his very best for each of them. He loved riding the rollercoasters with the kids all day at Kennywood Amusement Park and then dressing them in their pajamas and piling up all five of them into the back of the green station wagon to go to the Drive-in movie theatre. He instilled in each of his children and grandchildren the importance of a strong work ethic, living a life of service to others and a love for God and family.

In the summer of 2018, Charles and Nancy relocated to Bastrop, Texas to be closer to family. He became an active member at his local church,  Bastrop Christian Outreach Center (BCOC), and volunteered his time using his skills as an electrician in the expansion of the church sanctuary.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Nancy Jean Curtis Stanek, five children: Karen Martin and husband, Ron of Summit, New Jersey, Scott Stanek, and wife Maureen of Bastrop, Texas, Bonnie Hyatt and husband, Richard, of Bastrop, Texas, Nancy Stanek of Bastrop, Texas, and Gloria Richter and husband, Scott, of Everson, Pennsylvania;  sisters, Rosemary Brownfield of Cleveland, Ohio, Patricia Mehallick and husband, Michael of Everson, Pennsylvania and brother, Robert V. Stanek of Washington D.C.; six grandchildren: Olivia Martin, Anna Salone, (husband, Jon) Lindsay and Andrew Stanek, Erika Hyatt and Sarah Richter and one great-grandchild, Liam Grey Salone.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Julia Stanek, brother-in law, Tom Brownfield, Sr.  and nephew, Robert Brownfield.

The family wishes to say a special thank you to Dr. Jennifer Wright for her extraordinary kindness and compassionate care for Charles. You truly made a difference in his life.
