Charles Pacheco

November 4, 1941 — May 13, 2022

Bastrop, TX

Carlos Cantu Pacheco, beloved Chale to his family and friends, a brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on Friday, May 13, at the age of 80.

Chale was born, raised, and lived all his years in Bastrop, Texas, where he was a carpenter and cabinetmaker for most of his life, before retiring from BISD. If you knew Chale, then he probably helped you build or renovate your home. He took great pride in his work and helping others in any way he could, and had a way of touching you and making you feel part of his family. An active member of Ascension Catholic Church, he embraced and loved his church community.

When he wasn’t working, Chale loved planting and gardening in his yard and spending time in his home workshop, where he always listened to music and welcomed visitors for afternoon refreshments. He enjoyed fishing trips, especially with his son and grandsons. While he was able, he and Frances went dancing and enjoyed nearby churches, festivals, and movies. He liked long drives through the countryside and taking the children for Dairy Queen ice cream.

Chale was preceded in death by his firstborn son, Danny; his parents, Pascual and Maria Pacheco; three of his brothers, Andres, Jesse, Abelardo; and one sister, Teresa.

Chale is survived by an abundant family: his loving wife of 61 years, Frances, who cared for him in his final years; two sisters, Lupe and Mage; two brothers, Ramiro and Gilbert; one son, Frank (Jennifer); four daughters, Adela (Doug), Rachel (Ron), Stella (Armando), Esther (Stacy); five grandsons, five granddaughters, and eight great grandchildren.

Chale will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and all who loved him. The family is very thankful to all of his doctors and the Towers Nursing Home staff for their excellent care of him in his final weeks. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s prayers and the care you’ve offered us during these difficult times. We’re blessed by you.
