Angelita "Angie" Garcia

Angelita “Angie” Garcia, passed away in the early hours of October 29th, 2020 after a long hard battle at St. David’s Medical center in Austin, Texas. Angie was born on September 30th, 1952 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Olivia Garcia and Jose Maria Sanchez. Although Angie spent most of her life in Weslaco, Texas, she and her family lived in Paige, Texas at the time of her death. She considered the Bastrop area as her true home.

Angie is preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Munoz Garcia Jr., her sister, Olivia Sanchez-Molina, her brother-in-law, Casimiro Molina, and her older brothers Vicente and Joe Sanchez. She is survived by her children, Melissa Ann Garcia (Martin Martinez), Guadalupe Garcia III, Joe Garcia (Darlene Camargo), and Joel Rene Garcia. Also surviving are her treasured grandchildren, Bianca Janine Rios, Christine Angeline Rios, Joe Vincent Garcia and Jeremy Joel Garcia. Also surviving are her brother, Jesus Sanchez (Rita Sanchez) and sister, Eloisa Sanchez, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Angie was a friend to all and every slot machine she came across. Along with slot machines, she had a passion for gardening, softball, sewing, and taking care of any animal that was in need of her care. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She had a strong work ethic and worked until the time of her illness. At the time of her death, she was a Special Needs bus monitor for Goldstar Transportation in Bastrop.  She loved her job, the students, and everyone she worked with, especially her “gang of troublemakers” with whom she held court at their table in the Goldstar Transportation lounge.

On behalf of the Garcia family, we would like to thank St. David’s Hospital staff, friends and family for their great kindness during this difficult time. Angie will be greatly missed, and we know the world has lost a tremendous soul, but we know she will continue to share who she is with all she has greeted in Heaven.

A memorial service to celebrate Angie's life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home.

Family and friends will be gathering for a visitation period from 1:00PM to 4:00PM.  The Service will begin at 4:00PM.  Following the service the family will greet guests 5:00 PM to 7:00PM.
