Alicia Orozco

October 8, 1931 — October 15, 2020

Bastrop, Texas

Alicia Gutierrez Orozco was born to Evaristo and Leonora Gutierrez in Bastrop, TX, on October 8, 1931.  Alicia gained her heavenly inheritance on Thursday, Oct 15, 2020 at the age of 89 years.

She graduated from high school in Bastrop. Throughout her life she worked in a variety of areas including as a nurses aide in the Bastrop Hospital, as a nurses aide and teacher aide for Bastrop ISD, and provided childcare periodically.  During her life Alicia and Valentin were active in their local church and their area association.  Often she was asked to sing as a soloist at church events, which was a passion of hers since her early childhood.  Valentin compared her to a songbird when they were children, having met at Mina Ward over 80 years ago.

Alicia and her husband, Valentin, spent nearly 16 years living and working in San Diego, California, before returning to Texas in the mid-60s.  All three of their children were born in San Diego County in California, Helen Marie and Randy Russell, Daniel Louis and Cathie Orozco, and Rebecca Lynn and Ted Schaefer.

Their seven grandchildren are Lindy Russell Stuckey, Shelly Russell, Ryan Russell, Alison Orozco Thompson, Hannah Orozco Grassie, Kylie Schaefer, and Cami Schaefer.  She was blessed with 10 great grandchildren.

She is survived by her sister, Carolina Herrera.  She is preceded in death by Valentin on October 9, 2018, and her parents and 15 brothers and sisters.

The family is grateful for the kindness and care of the Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center team for nearly 4 years of care for Alicia and the previous 4 years of hosting her as she visited her husband.  We are also grateful to the New Century Hospice team for their attentiveness to her that began when they cared for her husband and until her passing.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to ITSHUH (In the Streets Hands Up High) at 987 North Hwy 95, Bastrop, TX, 78602.
