Vanessa Dale Swearingen

Vanessa Dale Swearingen , 68, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away on August 29, 2023, in Austin, Texas.

Vanessa was born January 24,1955 in Austin, Texas to parents Shirley and Kelley Dougherty.

Vanessa retired from Texas Parks and Wildlife where she worked for Bastrop State Park. She met many friends along the way while working there and kept those friendships all these years. After retirement she couldn’t sit at home, so she went back to Bastrop State Park for a few years then to Bits and Peaces Thrift Store for a couple years. She was currently employed with the Cafeteria Services at BISD. She loved working and was very dedicated to her work.

Vanessa also loved her family and they meant everything to her. Her daughters, son in law, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her face lit up when she saw them or talked about them at any time.

Vanessa is reunited wtih her parents; Shirley and Kelley Dougherty; the father of her children, Weldon Swearingen, and her daughter Sandra Lee Swearingen.

To cherish Vanessa's memories is her daughter, Wendy Swearingen of Bastrop; daughter and son in law, Tami and Robby Justice of Bastrop; grandchildren, Kaleb and wife Sarah of Bastrop, Kenadee and husband Jared of Mercury, Jayda and Rylee of Bastrop; great grandchildren, Hunter and Knox of Bastrop; her siblings, Shirley and husband Frank of Clarksville, TN, Theresa of Buda, Darla and husband Alvin of Cedar Creek, Kelley of Cedar Creek and Kathy of Wharton; numerous nieces and nephews and tons of dear sweet friends.

A Visitation will be held at 9 AM till time of service on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop, TX. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 10 AM. Vanessa will be laid to rest at Upper Cedar Creek Cemetery following the services. Food and fellowship will follow at Bastrop State Park in the Refactory Building.
