Susie Carter

August 25, 1945 — April 25, 2017

Susie Louise Young-Carter passed away peacefully on April 25, 2017. She was born in Austin, Texas on August 25, 1945 to Charles Edward (Ed) Sr. and Johnnie B. Favors. Though she had many challenges, she never let anything slow her down.

She was a cheerleader in high school, which wouldn't surprise anyone that knew how caring and bubbly Susie was. Susie graduated from Del Valle High School in 1964. Soon after, she began barrel racing and enjoyed the sport tremendously, but motherhood was more important. She missed barrel racing and her beloved horse, Peanut.

Susie loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed spending time at the lake camping, fishing, boating, and waterskiing. Some of her hobbies included crocheting afghans, sewing, and jigsaw puzzles. But one thing Susie always enjoyed was a competitive game of Scrabble. She had her Scrabble dictionary and knew how to use it! Susie also remarked, "Spending time with my grandchildren and babysitting them."

After retiring from the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, Susie moved to Seadrift, Texas because she had always loved being near the ocean. That's where she met her husband and love of her life, Lynn Carter. The two were married in a small ceremony on July 23, 2005. They spent much time together fishing, boating, riding jet skis, and watching the beautiful waves and sunsets.

Susie never met a stranger, and could make friends with anyone in a matter of minutes. That's just who she was. She had a smile for everyone. She leaves behind many sad hearts, but many more sweet memories to carry on her legacy.

Susie is survived by her husband, Lynn Carter of Seadrift, TX., two daughters, Anita (Dale) Cook of Del Valle, and Donna (Thomas) Kirkpatrick of Bastrop, son Kevin (Kim) Carter of Plano; eight grandchildren, Samantha (Kevin) Goertz of Red Rock, Taylor Kirkpatrick of Red Rock, Trenton Cook (Fiancée Lauren Gonzalez) of San Antonio, Kaitlyn Cook (Fiancée Jason Johnson) of Bastrop, Justin Carter, Jacob Carter, and Addison Carter, and Morgan Roberts; two great grand-children, Makenna Watson, and Sadie Goertz; siblings, Dru (Wilbert) Johnson of Cedar Park, and Eddie (Shirley) Favors of Tow; sister-in-law Shirley (J.C.) Redman of Bryan; and two nieces.

Susie is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward (Ed) Favors, and Johnnie B. Favors, their daughter, Marla Lynn Carter, and niece Robin Burt.

Graveside Services are 10:00am Friday, April 28, 2017 in Fairview Cemetery, Bastrop, Texas.

Arrangements under the direction of Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home, Bastrop, TX.
