Susanne Brubaker

Sue Brubaker died peacefully at home on May 20, 2018 under hospice care and surrounded by family and friends.
She was born Suzanne Barber on November 15, 1943 in the great state of Wyoming. She was a wartime baby and never knew her father who was killed in Italy while serving in the military. She graduated from Glenrock High School and the University of Minnesota. Sue married Stewart Brubaker in 1968, and they spent their honeymoon camping under the stars in Wyoming's great parks.
Sue had a long and varied career. She began as a social worker for the Wyoming Welfare Department, then worked as a juvenile probation in Fort Worth, Texas. Following Stewart to Beaumont, she worked for the City of Beaumont as a purchasing officer. After she and Stewart moved to Austin, Sue served as the City's Purchasing Director. A shrewd and tough negotiator, she was heavily involved in the construction of the Austin Bergstrom International Airport, which is the only major U.S. airport built on time and under budget.
Sue and Stew retired to the delightful City of Bastrop, Texas, where she was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, serving several terms on the Vestry and as an excellent Junior Warden.
A wonderful person who was filled with life and curiosity, Sue was an avid birder and loved to play golf and to gamble. She and her inseparable friend, Betty, traveled together to Australia, Africa, and Germany, collecting stories worth the telling. Sue never met a person she did not like and had a positive influence on countless people.
Survived by her husband, Stewart, by Wyoming relatives, and by many dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Tuition Assistance Fund for Calvary Episcopal School, Bastrop.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Sue's life at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Bastrop, Texas.
