Steven Hoagland was born on July 17, 1968, in Norwalk, California. He was the eldest son of Doug and Connie Hoagland and grew up in Fountain Valley, California.

Steve was known for his friendly nature, sharp memory, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He loved sports, especially baseball and football, and could recall countless facts about his favorite teams and players. At an early age, he placed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized in a portable tank at Calvary Baptist Church in Huntington Beach. As a teenager he was active in the youth group. As he grew into adulthood he faced many struggles, but his faith remained important to him.

Over the years, Steve lived in California, Arizona, and Texas. He was briefly married while he lived in Arizona. He worked in a variety of roles, including as a cook and maintenance worker, and later completed HVAC coursework. He especially enjoyed his work as a cook at The University of Texas and took pride in helping others whenever he could.

Those who knew Steve appreciated his sense of humor, generosity, and genuine interest in people. He loved movies, books, animals, and caring for his large aquarium. His beloved cat, Millie, was a constant companion.

Steve passed away on June 11, 2026. He was preceded in death by his mother, Connie Hoagland; his grandparents Otis and Dorothea Hoagland and Willard and Verna Hudson. He is survived by his father, Doug Hoagland; his sister, Cathy Sizemore and her husband Greg; his brother, Brian Hoagland and his wife Melanie; his aunt, Cheryl Dykstra; his uncle, George Hudson; one nephew; and seven nieces.

A Memorial service to celebrate the life of Steven Hoagland will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, June 26, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Bastrop.
