Rebecca J. Smith

Rebecca Jane Smith was born November 22, 1929, in Temple, TX. She passed away at her home in Bastrop, TX on August 23, 2024.

She graduated from Lampasas High School and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX for 2 years. She focused on being a housewife and mother for a number of years and moved with her family to Bastrop from Houston in 1966. She continued her education at Southwest Texas State University, now known as Texas State University, in San Marcos, TX where she earned her Masters Degree. She worked for Bastrop ISD, first as a special ed supervisor and then served 18 years as an elementary principal. She retired from Bastrop ISD after 28 years of service in June 2000.

She served on many different volunteer programs as a lifetime member of the Christian Church and held a joint membership with the Bastrop Christian Church and the University Christian Church of Austin. She was recognized as a Life Elder in the Christian Church and the highlight of her life was serving as a Stephen Minister.

She was preceded in death by her father H. Everett DuBois and her mother Gladys DuBois.

She is survived by her children Shane K. Smith and wife Lori of Bastrop, TX, Gina Gambrell of Florida and Bruce Gambrell. Three grandchildren, Brent Reneau and wife Katey of Florida, Rex Craft and wife Kelsey of Bastrop, TX and Lorin Craft of Austin, TX. Three great grandchildren, Cooper Reneau, Palmer Reneau and Olivia Craft.

A memorial service will be held at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Family and friends will gather for a  visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Memorial Service will start at 2:00 pm.
