Peter Beck, Sr.

Peter Ralph Beck, Sr., 70, of Cedar Creek TX, passed away on Friday, January 20th, 2023 at his home with his devoted wife of 41 years at his side.

Peter was born in Bogota, Columbia to Ira Beck and Maria Luisa De Plata on April 23, 1952. He attended various boarding schools across the United States from 18 months to 18 years old, graduating from Texas Military Institute in San Antonio in 1970. He excelled in swimming and literature while at TMI and won multiple awards.

Music was passion of Peter’s. After high school, Peter became very involved in the Austin Folk Music scene. He wrote multiple songs and performed at multiple venues to include headlining The First Annual Weird for Kerrville Festival in the summer of 1981 with his then girlfriend Nan Neta Wilks. They were married one month later on September 25th.

Peter is survived by his wife Nan Neta Beck of Cedar Creek, TX; his children, Andrew Beck of Winter Park, FL, Devereaux Mathers of Bastrop, TX and Peter Ralph Beck II of Austin, TX; siblings, Samanthia Nicoletti of North Carolina and Inaki Perea Plata of Bogota Columbia; 3 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop, TX on Friday, February 10, 2023 Friends and family will gather from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The service will begin at 11:00 am. A lunch will follow at the First United Methodist Church of Bastrop’s Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for you to donate to KMFA, Austin Classical Music Radio or KUT, Austin’s NPR Station.
