Pastor James E. Hull, age 82, of Bastrop, Texas retired Evangelist and Pastor of Joyful Harvest Church, Topeka, Kansas, went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ Friday, September 08,2023, at Saint David’s South, Austin, Texas. Pastor Jim was born on January 11, 1941, Wichita, Kansas to Emer S. Hull, and Helen Ruth Summers.

At the young age of seven years, he gave his life to Jesus, and was filled with the Holy Spirit while attending camp meeting services in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He resided in Wichita, and graduated from Wichita, High School North, where he was very active in the music department After High School, he moved to attend Bible college in Houston, Texas. After two years of Bible college, he returned to Wichita to attend Friends University, majoring in Music.

In 1961, he began attending Central Assembly of God Church to assist with the music department. It was during this time that he met the love of his life and lifelong ministry partner, Estelle McDowell. They were married on September 29, 1962.

On February 28, 1964, they welcomed their first daughter, Tena Rae, and their second daughter, Nanette Rachelle followed two and a half years later. During the early years of their ministry, they were directors for the second-grade department at Central, and actively served in the Childrens department with Vacation Bible School.

After college, Pastor Jim served in several churches in various ministry capacities. Minister of Music, Youth pastor, Children’s pastor, and Assistant Pastor. In 1969 Pastor Jim accepted his first assignment as senior pastor of the First Assemblies of God church in Wellsville, Kansas. After several years, the young family began traveling in fulltime ministry as Children’s Evangelist, holding weekly services in churches throughout Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri. In 1976, Pastor Jim accepted the senior pastor position in Kensington, Kansas where he worked diligently uniting the community. In 1983 he moved to Topeks, Kansas and together with Estelle they pioneered Joyful Harvest Church. They ministered faithfully in Topeka for 29 years, ministering and feeding the community, both spiritually and physically through the Way Station food distribution ministry.

Pastor Jim retired in 2012 and moved to Bastrop, Texas to remain close to family. He began attending Bastrop Christian Outreach Center where he thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Men’s morning prayer group, and through teaching classes in the church’s Believer’s academy.

Pastor Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Estelle, His daughters Tena Williams, Bastrop, Texas, and Nanette Frasier, and her husband Miles, Bastrop, Texas, spiritual son, Charlie Akin, Giddings, Texas. Grandchildren, Brooke Collinsworth, and her husband H.J., Brittany Moyer, and her husband Colton, Isaiah, Hannah, Abigail, and Esther Frasier, Benjamin Rizk, Elias Rizk and His wife Tori, Katelynn Bain, and Travis Fuller. Great grandchildren, Zion, Zoe, Grace, Sophia, Arrowynn, Leah, Travis, Korben, and Teagan. Sister-in-law, Joyce Hull, Louisville, KY, Brother-in-law Marc McDowell, and Sister-in-law Melva. Nephew (who’s a BIG deal) Matthew McDowell, and niece, Joelle Lively Bastrop, Texas.

Pastor Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, Emer and Helen Ruth Hull, his brother, David Hull, and his In laws Samuel and Virginia McDowell and Morgan Elizabeth McDowell.

Pastor Jim’s services will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023, Bastrop Christian Outreach Center 1096 Hwy 71 West, Bastrop Texas, family visitation 9:00 am-10:00am, Christian services at 10:00 am, graveside internment at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation and meal following at BCOC Memorial contributions may be made to Wee Care Child Development center, 159 Settlement Drive, Bastrop Texas 78602.

Pallbearers will be Isaiah James Frasier, Matthew McDowell, Benjamin Rizk, Elias Rizk, Miles Frasier and Marc McDowell.  Honorary Pallbearers are Rick Hyatt and Jim Frost.

The family wishes to thank the Pastoral staff at BCOC, Pastors Joan Boethal, Mary Jackson, Scott and Maureen Stanek, Rick and Bonnie Hyatt, and Dane and Allie Edwards. Friends, Rene’ and Kathy Rizk, Cheryl Bohl, Rhonda DeLeon, the entire staff, and families, past and present of Wee Care Child Development Center, and the many friends that have visited and loved on Pastor Jim this past year.
