Jerry Juel Montgomery, Sr., age 76, of Bastrop, Texas, peacefully passed away on June 14, 2025. Born on January 26, 1949, in Venus, Texas, he was the cherished son of Juel Deary and Lorena Mills Montgomery.
Jerry attended Mary A. Brown High School and later furthered his education at the Job Corps in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he became a Certified Auto Body Technician. He dedicated 58 years of service to his craft and proudly retired in Bastrop, Texas.
Early in life, Jerry married Laura Veal, and from that union, four children were born: Jerry Montgomery Jr., Jerald Montgomery, Howard Jerome Montgomery, and Jerrolyn Montgomery. He later shared 35 years of loving marriage with his late wife, Bonnie (Cathey) Montgomery. Through this union, Jerry welcomed two special bonus children into his heart: Monica Jones and Norman Jones.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Montgomery; his parents, Juel and Irene; and several loved ones who have gone before him.
He is lovingly remembered by his six children: Jerry Montgomery Jr. (Alexandria) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jerald Montgomery (Maretta) of Houston, Texas, Howard Montgomery (Sherri) of Columbia, South Carolina, Jerrolyn Montgomery-Smalls (Terex) of Blythewood, South Carolina, Monica Jones of Bastrop, Texas, Norman Jones (LaTanza) of Bastrop, Texas
Jerry’s legacy continues through his 27 beloved grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought joy and pride to his life. He cherished his role as “Dad,” “Grandpa,” and “Pop-Pop” and created a strong family bond that will endure for generations.
He is also survived by his devoted siblings, all of Smithville, Texas:
Sandra (Shaffer) Smith, Willie Ray Deary, Lillie Mae Deary, Frank Deary, Gilbert Deary, and Janice Deary.
Additionally, Jerry leaves behind his dear aunts: Josephine McGregor of Smithville, Rosie Mae Montgomery of Lubbock, and Daisy Perkins of Manor, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and neighbors who will miss him dearly.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Suncrest Hospice for their compassionate care and unwavering support during Jerry’s final days. Your kindness made a lasting difference during a difficult time.
Jerry will be remembered for his steady hands, quiet strength, love of family, and enduring work ethic. He built a life marked by dedication, love, and resilience—lessons he passed on to all who knew him.
A funeral will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Providence Primitive Baptist Tabernacle in Cedar Creek, Texas. A burial at Shiloh Cemetery will follow.
