Marlene Yvonne Curtiss, born in Navasota, Texas, on April 12, 1931, to Stanley Chance Curtiss and Velma Irene Womble, peacefully passed away on January 31, 2026, at the age of 94. She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother, Glenn Chance Curtiss.

Marlene attended Sam Houston State Teachers College before graduating from Sul Ross State College in 1952. She immediately began a distinguished 42-year career with Delta Air Lines. Marlene’s notable contributions included the instruction and mentoring of numerous colleagues, from which she forged many lasting friendships. She advanced into leadership roles, including International In-Flight Coordinator. She crewed high-profile flights, including Delta’s first Lockheed L-1011 TriStar delivery from Palmdale, California, and the airline’s last scheduled Boeing 747 flight on April 23, 1977. These assignments, along with her work on international route launches, reflected both her professionalism and the deep trust placed in her.

Strong, fiercely independent and adventurous, Marlene embraced the wide world beyond her small hometown. She loved travel, boating, skiing, and camping – pursuits that suited both her profession and her spirit. She lived many years in Las Vegas, Nevada, before returning to Texas to care for her mother, Velma. After Velma’s passing, Marlene spent her retirement years in Bandera, Texas, where she found caring friendships and joy in outings such as attending rodeos and exploring the beautiful Texas Hill County.

Marlene leaves behind many “Sky Sisters” from her Delta family, her lifelong childhood friend, Boyce Ann Miller of Navasota, and several cousins. A private memorial service will be held at Bryan City Cemetery in Bryan, Texas, at a date to be determined. The family welcomes shared memories of Marlene from friends and former colleagues.
