Marie Ann Haberer

October 5, 1944 — July 22, 2025

Red Rock

Marie Haberer, 80, of Rockne, Texas was surrounded by her family when she gently took the hands of angels to carry her peacefully to Heaven on July 22, 2025.

Marie was the youngest born to Adolph Meuth and Clara Wilhelm Meuth in October 1944 on the family farm.

In her younger years, at age 2, she moved to the “Home Place” with her parents and her two older sisters, Daisy Zumwalt and Laverne Alexander. Raised a devout Catholic, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and attended the Saint Elizabeth Catholic School, commonly known as Sacred Heart Catholic School, until it closed in 1962.

Marie spent her senior year at Bastrop High School. After graduating she attended the Nixon Clay Business School in 1963. That same year, on December 3rd, Marie met her beloved husband, Hayden Haberer, at Annie’s, which later became known as the Watterson Dance Hall. Hayden’s first impression was, “She was the thing!” With friends encouraging the love match, they married on April 24th, 1965. They then settled in San Marcos and joined the Saint John’s Catholic Church. As their family grew, they stayed active in the church by donating their time to the annual bazaars from 1982-1992.

After Hayden’s retirement in 1997, the couple spent their days traveling and camping with their closest friends. Throughout 60 years of marriage, Marie was blessed with 2 children, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons, and was anticipating the arrival of her first great-granddaughter, due to arrive in August.

Marie is known for being a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. But to her grandchildren, she was “Ma’am’aw”. Our hearts may be heavy, and the world may not be as bright, but she showed us that our faith in God will always be the light.

Marie Haberer is survived by her husband, Hayden Haberer; her children, Ronald Haberer and Lisa Jones; grandchildren Megan and Austin Smith, Mason and Beverly Jones, Katy Haberer, Madison Haberer, and Bryton Haberer; great-grandchildren Augusta Hayden Stevenson, Tate Walker Smith, Isabella Marie Jones, Tyrone Zare Sim Baxter; sister LaVerne Alexander; cousins Lois and Ted Chastain, longtime friend; Leona Schafer and many nieces and nephews.

Marie Haberer is preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Clara Meuth; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Lottie Haberer; son-in-law David Jones; sister Daisy Zumwalt; brother William Haberer; brothers-in-law Floyd Zumwalt and Dewitt Alexander; sister-in-law Martha Haberer; niece Roxie Zumwalt; nephew Jimmy Zumwalt; great-niece Christine Henderson Greenwood; and longtime friends Buster Schaefer, MaryAnn and Alfred Till, and Verna Mae and Jimmy Gee.

While Marie will be profoundly missed, her story is one of a life well-lived, and a legacy of love that will be passed on throughout her family’s generations.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockne. The rosary will follow at 1:30 pm, and a funeral mass will begin at 2:00 pm.
