Lynda Rae Lewellyn

January 2, 1949 — October 13, 2023

Bastrop

Lynda Lewellyn, 74, of Bastrop, Texas, has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 13, 2023.

Lynda was born on January 2, 1949, in West Hamlin, WV, to parents Rebecca Grace (Baker) and Clifford Rae Johnson. Her early years were very hard. She was an extremely hard worker and often worked multiple jobs. She worked mainly in the services industry as a waitress, in the egg factory, as a store clerk and, painting. She even went to some schooling for real estate.

Lynda met and married the love of her life, Gary Thomas Lewellyn, where they were able to share over 40 years of love together.

She was a devoted and faithful Christian and was baptized at Jefferson Street Independent Baptist Church by Fred Templeton in Brooksville, Florida in 1980. She loved going to church and when the worship music was loud. As she would say “I can feel it in my inner being, in my soul!” She began to read many books to get closer to God and understand Him better. She knew her health was not the best and would tell God every day “Thank you for one more day.” And she would never take a single breath God gave her for granted.

She was a very independent woman who always kept a loaded gun in the house and a mini-chihuahua dog, Peanut by her side. Her husband passed away on August 6, 2018, her only son, Anthony Eric Sustarsic, passed just six weeks later, on September 21, 2018. A month later, she moved to Bastrop and quit smoking “cold turkey” after smoking for nearly her whole life.

Lynda was a very caring, giving, and loving person. When she cared about you and loved you, she cared and loved very deeply. She also had many passions in life including gardening and going to the farmer’s market – she planted much of this past spring’s garden. She loved growing tomatoes and potatoes and loved eating them, too. She also loved to cook for people and see how people enjoyed the dishes she would create.

Lynda enjoyed the simple things in life such as folding her laundry as it was very soothing, also crocheting and quilting. She also would enjoy spending time with her family whether it be going secretly getting ice cream cones with her kids, sipping on a cup of coffee, relaxing at the lake while fishing, or watching her favorite shows, Yellowstone and Fox News, and whatever the Hallmark Channel had on!

Lynda was so very proud of her daughter, Gretchen; son-in-law, Greg, and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lynda is reunited in heaven with her Husband, Gary Thomas Lewellyn; her only Son, Anthony Eric Sustarsic; her Parents, Rebecca Grace and Clifford Rae Johnson; her Siblings; Wanda Faye Mora of Texas, Madelyn Gayle Stickler of Florida, John Barron McCoy of Florida, and Elisha Harmon McCoy of West Virginia.

To cherish Lynda’s memories are her Daughter, Gretchen Etherington and husband Greg; her Grandchildren, Matthew Scott Etherington of Reading, Pennsylvania, Michael Gregory Etherington of Rockwall, Texas, Christopher Blake Sustarsic of Kansas City, Kansas, David William Lee Etherington of Bastrop, Texas, Stephen Gary Thomas Etherington of Bastrop, Texas, her great-grandchildren; Taylor Cayce Etherington, Fin Saylor Etherington, Asher Kai Etherington, Micah Von Etherington, Christopher Blake Sustarsic, Jr., her Siblings; Roger Dale Johnson of Garland, Texas, Morna Myron Johnson of Florida, Sandra Meletta Holton of West Virginia, Juanita Christine Hild of West Virginia, Clifford Allen Johnson of Florida, Darren Lawrence Johnson of West Virginia and Pete McCoy of Virginia.
