Louis Eugene Calvez, 93, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 peacefully at home with family at his side. Louis was born July 3, 1930, in Cost, Texas to Emil and Annie Thiede Calvez. His childhood was spent in rural southeast Texas moving with his parents as they worked on different farms and ranches. He started school in 1936 at Schroeder School and continued on until he graduated from Banquete High School in 1947. Louis served in the Army during the Korean War. Upon his return home from his service to his country, Louis began his 30+ year career at Lubrizol Corporation, a chemical plant in Deer Park. While working there, he met Nita Jane East, and they were married August 22, 1955. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Lori and Susan. The family were members of First Baptist Church, Deer Park, where Louis served as a deacon. Louis was able to take an early retirement from Lubrizol, and he and Nita moved to Johnson City for the remainder of their time together. Louis was a devoted husband and caregiver for Nita. After her passing, he moved to Taylor to be closer to his daughters, and eventually moved to Bastrop to live with Lori and her husband, Mark.

Louis is survived by daughters Lori Gracey (Mark) of Bastrop and Susan Burkhart (Mark) of Taylor; grandchildren Jonathan Lusk, Stephen Lusk, Daniel Lusk, Kristi Suchomel (Tony), Casey Burkhart (Meredith), and Emma Burkhart; great grandchildren Luke, Charlie and Graceann Suchomel and Warner, Hadley and Hunter Burkhart; brothers Donnie Calvez, Larry Calvez and Tommy Calvez; sisters Gladys Schroedter, Betty Touchberry, and Carolyn Coffman; sister-in-law Nelda Sanders; and many nephews and nieces.
