Lloyd Hemphill

October 21, 1935 — April 16, 2019

Lloyd Dennis Hemphill was Born October 21, 1935 in La Grange, Texas to Joe and Veda Hemphill. On Tuesday April 16, 2019, he died peacefully in Corpus Christi, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betsy Ann Lobpries Hemphill, and his daughter, Susan Ann Hemphill.

After graduating high school in 1956, Lloyd joined the U.S. Marine Corp, and shortly after, he married his sweetheart Betsy Ann on November 21st. With Betsy at his side, he served the Corp honorably for two years in 29 Palms California, with another four serving in the reserves. After, he returned to Austin, where he attended Austin Barber College, graduated, and began his career as a barber in 1960. He successfully owned his own business for over fifty years throughout south Texas, including Austin, Houston, and Stafford, where he ran his barber shop for thirty-five years. He and Betsy Ann retired in Schulenburg, Texas where he opened a shop on Upton, Street. He continued to cut hair until 2012, finally putting away his clippers at the age of seventy-seven.

Lloyd loved to garden with his brother-in-law Ed Borski, especially tomatoes and potatoes. He also loved to travel. Every Christmas, Lloyd would load up the car to the brim the kids, grandkids, whomever he could find, and began his annual pilgrimage to 29 Palms, California. Doing so gave him the opportunity share his pride in and his memories of his service. Those who were lucky enough to go on such adventures cherish those times dearly.

Lloyd is survived by his oldest son, Willian Joseph Hemphill, his daughter, Carol Denise Voelkel, and his youngest son, Daniel James Hemphill. Lloyd has nine grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.

Lloyd was deeply loved by his family and will be sincerely missed.
