On September 25th, 1976, Linda married Philip Allen from Taylorsville, Texas. After marrying, Linda worked at Armstrong McCall in Austin, until the birth of their first son, Brazos Philip Allen born September 25, 1979. Linda loved being a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed caring for her family and tending her beautiful yard. Their second son, Blaine Taylor Allen was born June 17, 1982.
Weekends were spent with her family in Watterson, but on any given Saturday night she enjoyed her passion of country dancing with friends. Her two step was so smooth, and so many friends loved dancing with her. Linda assisting in arranging the Bastrop High School Class of ’76 reunions every five years. She attended the 45th reunion in August of 2021, and there was so much love shown by all the classmates in attendance.
Linda returned to work in the late 1980’s with a position in medical transcription at the Lockhart Hospital. She quickly found her niche and when the Lockhart Hospital closed, she transferred to Seton Hospital in Luling, Texas. She spent 25 years in medical billing and worked at several locations to include Seton in Austin, followed by Seton Smithville, where she remained until the billing department was transferred to another state. Her final employment was with Roadrunner Radiology in Bastrop, Texas.
Linda was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. She underwent massive radiation and chemo. She went into remission, and continued her career, as well as her hobbies of dancing, baking, and tending to her beautiful yard. She continued spending time with friends and co-workers and always spoke so highly of those in her life.
She returned to her home community of Watterson in 2017. She was so proud of her home and little acre of land. In addition to keeping her lawn beautiful, she also manicured her mother’s yard next door. You would always find Linda either watering the grass, pulling up weeds, or planting flowers.
Upon finding a lump in May of 2019, she again underwent radiation and chemo. In November of 2019, she was told she was in remission, but learned in January 2020, that she had Triple Negative Breast Cancer, and it had spread to her lymph nodes and spine. Linda participated in three clinical trials at M.D. Anderson in Houston. Having to follow strict health protocol for the studies, Linda learned in April of 2021, that she would not be a candidate for a fourth study. She returned to Texas Oncology in San Marcos, Texas. Chemo was again administered, and along with her strong will and determination, Linda underwent hours of chemo which took a toll on her physically, but she never gave up, never complained, and always put others first. During her last treatments in San Marcos, she continued medical billing for Roadrunner Radiology in Bastrop.
After a trip to the ER at Seton in Bastrop in April of 2022, and several in- patient admissions to Seton in Kyle this past spring, cancer won the battle. Linda was determined to remain at her Watterson home and enjoy each day to the fullest. Anyone who knew Linda knows that her determination never waned, and she was always thinking of others while suffering from this evil disease. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, cheerful outlook and caring for others in so many ways. If she could help with a roof over someone’s head, or a meal, she never turned anyone away.
