Bastrop

Joseph “Joe” Laurence Fields, 76, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away on August 22, 2025. He was born on May 4, 1949, in Denver, Colorado, to Joseph Rue Fields and Lois Jeanne Foster.

Joe spent his early years in Colorado before moving to Texas during grade school. Over the course of his life, he also lived in Arkansas and Missouri, creating a lifetime of memories in each place he called home.

A proud veteran, Joe served honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He remained in contact with his shipmates throughout his life, cherishing the lifelong bonds they shared.

Following his service, Joe worked in many fields, including as a portrait photographer with the Photo Corporation of America, a role that took him across the country and even to Alaska. While in Alaska, he operated heavy equipment, plowed snow, worked in road grading and construction, and bartended for The Howling Dog Saloon, farthest rock and roll bar in the north for several years. He worked several years for BISD as security and Pest Control professional and wherever he went, he left behind the mark of a hardworking and determined man. Joe pursued higher education and earned his associate’s degree in Portland, Oregon.

Joe loved to travel and experience new places. Together with his wife, he visited all 50 states and the District of Columbia. He also enjoyed shooting, exploring the outdoors, and living life to the fullest.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Delores Yvonne Fields of Bastrop; grandsons Maddax and Tate Fields his stepbrothers Mike Summers, Dave Summers, and Stafford Summers Jr.; and his sister, Jaleesa Fuentes.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Colleen Fields; his son, Lance Galen Fields; his sisters Melissa Fields and Debbie Bjaastad; and his stepbrother, Allen Summers.

Joe will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of travel, his devotion to family, and the strength and loyalty he showed to everyone whose lives he touched
