John James

John B James, age 69 of Red Rock, Texas, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2020, in Kyle, Texas. John had been battling kidney cancer for several years.

John was born April 18, 1950 in Quanah, Texas.   He graduated from Tulsa-Midway High School in Corpus Christi, Texas.   He attended Del Mar Junior College before enlisting in the U.S Naval Reserves.   He obtained a degree in photography from the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas.     John was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving on a PBR during his tour.  John served in Law Enforcement for both the Freeport Police Department and the Oyster Creek Marshal’s Office.  He spent some of his law enforcement career teaching classes at the Academy at Brazosport College.    He was an early recipient of the Concealed Handgun License and taught classes to many people.  Upon retirement from law enforcement, John moved to Red Rock, Texas, where he continued in a new career as a Network Administrator and ran his own cattle ranch.  John was a patriot.   He loved to hunt and shoot.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Anne B. James, of Bowie, Texas.    John is survived by his wife, Cindy Edwards James and his son, Anthony Neal James.   He is also survived by his sister, Linda Wynn of Bowie, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at his home in Red Rock.   He wanted a very informal service with friends and family.   He wished for all his friends and family to wear jeans and boots, whether combat or cowboy.   He wanted his veteran friends to wear a campaign hat depicting their branch of service.   He requested his law enforcement friends to do the same.    Anyone wishing to attend is welcomed.   Contact information is Anthony James 512-718-7729 or Cindy James 512-632-2838.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, the Wounded Warriors or the Texas Peace Officers Association.
