Jane Kesling

February 3, 1930 — June 12, 2025

Bastrop

Mrs. Jane Marie Kesling passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, at her home in Bastrop, Texas. She was born on February 3, 1930, in Elmore, Ohio, to Paul A. Payden and Cleota C. Payden.

In her early years, Jane moved with her family to Toledo, Ohio, where she pursued business studies. Her life was deeply rooted in faith and devotion to family. A lifelong lover of music, Jane played the accordion with heartfelt dedication, cherishing her original instrument, her accordion adorned with mother-of-pearl keys. Her music brought joy and comfort to many and remained a cherished part of her spiritual journey.

On August 16, 1957, Jane married Orville P. Kesling in Toledo—on his birthday so he would always remember their special day. Their marriage spanned more than 67 years and stood as a testament to enduring love and shared faith. Their home radiated warmth and welcome—from the adoption of their children to the many families, friends, and strangers who experienced their hospitality. Family traditions flourished under their watch: bowling nights, card games, jigsaw puzzles, Sunday school gatherings, camping trips, and road adventures through mountains and along beaches. Life with Jane was always an adventure waiting around the next corner. One exceptional adventure was a trip of a lifetime to the Philippines, with Chris and Carmela Kesling.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Christopher Kesling; and her brother Don Payden.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Tracy Marie Miller and son-in-law George O. Miller; daughter-in-law Carmela Kesling and granddaughter Princess Gomez of the Philippines'; grandchildren Jared L. McHaffie (Claire), Simon J. Castaneda, Cassandra J. Castaneda (Jose), Kiara I. Thompson (Travis), and Brooke A. Castaneda; and great-grandchildren Zoey, Lyra, Sophia, Adeline, and Hazel.

She is also survived by her sister Nancy Elliott of Oregon; brother-in-law Carl Kesling of Toledo, Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on June 19, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service on June 20 at 10:00 a.m., both at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home, 505 Old Austin Hwy, Bastrop, TX 78602.

May her soul find eternal rest in the presence of our Savior and Lord Jesus she faithfully served.

A special thank you to Pastor Schnelle and our Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Family. Also to hospice and their special love and attention given to Mom
