James Franklin Solomon, 89 of Bastrop, Texas passed away on Saturday, May 6th 2023 at Newhaven Assisted Living in Bastrop, Texas after a short illness with pneumonia. James was born on May 8th, 1933 in High Point, North Carolina to Edgar Solomon and Mary Solomon. James had a brother Arnold Solomon and half sister Fayedean.
James was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister and wife Flo Solomon.
James had the opportunity to attend Honor Flight for Veterans in Washington D.C.
James was a Mason and Shriner and happy to serve. He followed in his dads footstep to become a Mason. James was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Pasadena Texas where he loved directing singing. James worked and retired form Ethyl Corporation in Pasadena Texas in July 1994. After retiring he and Flo moved to Bastrop Texas where they built there dream home and enjoyed life. They joined First Baptist Church of Bastrop where they were very active serving the Lord. James enjoyed singing in the choir, and sang in the Joy group (Just Older Youth). He was also a Deacon. He was known as trouble at Newhaven Assisted Living where he was the favorite.
James leaves behind two son's, James A. Solomon of Waller Texas, Tim Solomon wife Twila of Crosby; two daughters, Ginger Yocom, husband Steve Yocom of Paige, Texas and Penny Scott and husband Don Scott of Rosanky Texas; grandchildren, Shane Fleming, Amber Mayfield, Crishawn Costa, T.J. Solomon, Megan Forrest, Jonathan Yocom and Jessica Lockhart; and great grandchildren, Aubrey Mayfield, Amaya Mayfield, A.J. Mayfield, Masie Costa, Emma Forrest, Tanner Forrest, Luke Forrest, Curtis Yocom, Levi Yocom, Riley Yocom, Bailey Lockhart, Emily Mae Lockhart and Cameron Fleming.
James never met a stranger.
Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday May 16, 2023 at Marrs Jones Newby Funeral Home.
Gravside Military Honors and Burial will be at 2:00pm on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
