James Smith

James Carl Smith, 58, of Elgin, Texas passed away on September 9, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.

James is survived by his fiancé, Donna Gudeczauskas; his mother, Vernie Smith; brothers and sisters, Wayne Smith and his wife, Valerie;  Beverly Smith and Daryl Gardner; Dan Smith and his wife Gail and nephew, Allan Smith; Fred Smith and his wife, Rachel and niece, Jessica.

James was born and grew up in Erie Pennsylvania.  He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for 8 years.  During his time in the military he was stationed in Germany, Korea and several other duty stations in the U.S.  After his honorable service, James became an Electrician.  He worked his way up to an Electrical Inspector and worked for the City of Austin for 5 years.

Three years ago, in 2017, James met his soulmate, Donna. During their time together they shared many joyous life experiences and numerous new beginnings, including his relationship with family and faith.

A memorial service to celebrate and honor James will be held at Marrs Jones Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop, Texas on Thursday, September 17, 2020.  The family and friends will gather from 1:00pm to 2:00pm and the service will begin at 2:00pm. The funeral home is located at 505 Old Austin Highway in Bastrop, Texas.
