James D. “Frog Man” McNeill, a loving husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and cherished friend of Paige, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2026.
James married the love of his life, Velma Marie McNeill, on June 15, 1968, in Abernathy, Texas. Together they built a life filled with love and devotion and were blessed with two children, Brandi Turner and Bret McNeill.
James proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years, working on jet engines. During his service, he spent three years stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and often shared fond stories of his time overseas. After his military career, James continued to serve faithfully in his community and church. A devoted man of God, he spent many years serving in ministry, including as a Music Director for multiple churches. He had a deep love for working with his hands and created beautiful stained glass pieces that will be treasured for years to come.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Velma Marie McNeill; his daughter, Brandi Turner; his parents, Dan and Ruth McNeill; his grandparents, Ernest and Ruby Hemphill and Robert and Edna McNeill; and his stepfather, Leo Lebo.
He is survived by his son, Brett McNeill; his grandson, Christopher McNeill and wife Amanda of Paige, Texas; his grandson, Trace Turner of Paige, Texas; his granddaughter, Kira Turner of Paige, Texas; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Liam McNeill, Emma McNeill, Joshua McNeill, Chad Smith, Chelsey Smith, Hannah Smith, and Kaitlyn Smith, all of Paige, Texas. He is also survived by Carolyn and Keith Kastor of Katy, Texas, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
James will be remembered for his faith, his service, his craftsmanship, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
Services will be Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Bastrop. The visitation will begin at 10:00am and the funeral service will begin at 11:00am with burial following at Fairview Cemetery.
