Isie Evelyn Bailey Sewell was born on February 28, 1942, to Walter Earl Bailey and Allie Lee Farmer Bailey in Bastrop County, Texas. She passed away on October 26, 2018, at the age of 76 at Grand Brook Memory Care in Garland, Texas from complications of a year's struggle with dementia. She loved the Lord and was a long-time faithful member of the Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas.
Isie learned to sew at a young age on her mother's treadle sewing machine. She was an excellent seamstress and often made her own clothes. She also used her gift of sewing to support the Helping Hearts ministry at Highland Oaks for many years, sewing hundreds of small bears for hospital and nursing home patients. Besides her unique given name, she was known for her quiet nature, sweet and gentle spirit, pleasant laughter, acts of service, and generosity.
Isie was a member of the Bastrop 4-H Club and graduated from Bastrop High School in 1960. She stayed in touch with her classmates for a number of years and regularly gathered with them at Bastrop Homecomings. After high school graduation, Isie attended Nixon-Clay Commercial College in Austin, Texas. She worked for the Texas Department of Public Safety for over 28 years, and retired from the Driver's License Division at the age 58 in March of 2000.
Isie was married to Eric Wayne Sewell in 1980. Although she did not have any children of her own, she adored her two grandnieces for whom she sewed and her two grandnephews for whom she babysat in their youth. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Walter Earl Bailey, Jr., her nephew Kenneth Wayne Kelley, her sister-in-law Mary Bailey and her cousins Elva G. Robinson, Elma Joy Balusek and Ronald Morrison.
