Fredia Egger

Fredia Farmer Egger passed away June 29, 2018. She was born January 20, 1920, in the Blair Community, Taylor County, Texas, to Murray and Iva Reeves Farmer.

She attended elementary schools in the area and High school in Merkel, graduating in 1938.

She married Marvin B. Egger at the Nolan Baptist Parsonage September 2, 1939. She moved to Galveston to be near Marvin while he served in the Coast Guard during WWII. She continued to live there while he was overseas. Upon his return they continued living in Galveston. They had two daughters while in Galveston. He was employed by the United States Public Health Service. The family moved to Houston when Marvin was transferred in 1950.

Fredia did bookkeeping and secretarial work while living in Houston and raising their two daughters, Pamela and Sherry. They lived in Houston until Marvin's retirement in 1974. At that time they moved to Bastrop, Texas, where they became active in the community, joining First United Methodist Church. Fredia was a member of NARFE, the Bastrop Ladies Reading Circle, Home Extension Club, and the Bastrop County Senior Center.

Fredia was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, M. H. Farmer, Jr., and Paul E. Farmer, and her beloved husband of 69 years, Marvin, in 2008, and grandson, Travis White, in 2014.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Larry White, Sherry and Jack McDermott; grandson, Carter White and wife, Niki; granddaughter, Jodi McDermott, granddaughter-in-law, Martha White; great-granddaughters, Kinley, Makenna, Peyton, and Parker White, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed being with her family. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, travelling, and gardening as long as she was physically able.

After Marvin's death in 2008, Fredia continued to live in her home until it was destroyed by the Bastrop County Complex Fire, September 4, 2011. She then moved to Pearland to be near family, remaining there until her death.

Visitation and the Funeral Service will be at Marrs Jones Newby Funeral Home of Bastrop on Tuesday, July 3, 2018. The visitation will begin at 12:00pm and the service at 1:00pm with internment following at Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bastrop First United Methodist Church, the Bastrop Crisis Center, Bastrop Food Pantry or the charity of your choice.
