A viewing to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Fay will be held at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop, Texas, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 8:30 to 9:30 AM. A graveside service will follow at 10:00 AM at Fairview Cemetery. Fay’s entrepreneurial spirit, boundless kindness, and unwavering love touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
Fay was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Andrew Jackson and Ruby (Waller) Dobbs, her devoted husband James Zeman, and her siblings Clyde Dobbs, Eugene Dobbs, Ray Dobbs, Donald Dobbs, Jerry Dobbs, Fern Sloan, Andra Collier, Edith Chitwood, and Juanita Danberger and great grandson Xander Humphreys. Though they are gone, their memories live on in the stories and love they shared.
She is survived by her stepbrother Andrew Jackson Dobbs Jr; her loving children Jeanie Fulp; Debbie Braswell and husband Gary Braswell; and James Zeman II and wife Jeanett Zeman. Fay’s legacy continues through her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Corina Weaver and husband Brian Weaver; Joshua Fulp and wife Claire Fulp, and their children Chloe and Noah; Dusty Braswell and wife Amy Braswell, and their sons Dylan and Easton; Jacob Zeman; Sarah Suzuki and husband Tsubasa Suzuki, and their children Joslynn, Johnathan, Jillian, and James; Maggie Zeman and daughter Evie Humphreys. Each of them carries a piece of her warmth and wisdom, and her memory will forever be a guiding light in their lives.
Born in Darwin, Oklahoma on August 12, 1928, Fay was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a cherished member of her community. She built a successful real estate agency in Bastrop, Texas, helping to shape the community she loved so dearly. Fay’s passion for learning led her to earn a master’s degree from UTEP, where she wrote a thesis on domestic violence statistics that was later added to the Library of Congress—a testament to her commitment to justice and advocacy.
Fay was a tireless champion for the rights of all, especially women, and was a strong voice in the democratic political movement. Her warmth, compassion, and unwavering support uplifted everyone around her. Fay’s legacy is one of love, courage, and dedication—a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
May her memory be a blessing, and may her spirit continue to inspire us all.
