Earnest Ray Nance, Jr, 76, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021. Ernie, as he was known to everyone, was born on November 15, 1944 in Houston, Texas, the oldest of three children.
He married his sweetheart, Linda Nance, on December 23, 1965.
Ernie retired from the City of Austin Electric Department in 1994. During his tenure with the City of Austin, he was also a member of the Marine Corps Reserves for 15 years.
Although he had lived all of his adult life in Austin, he and his wife built their dream home in Bastrop. They loved their family and friends and enjoyed hosting many family events there.
Ernie and Linda enjoyed visiting Las Vegas together and went every year for their anniversary. They also shared a love of Elvis Presley, and in his later years, Ernie was rarely seen without his Elvis-style sunglasses. He enjoyed listening to the music of his youth, and anyone who visited the Nance home would hear their home stereo playing a constant stream of “that old time rock ‘n roll.”
Ernie is survived by his children, daughter Mychelle (Nance) Jackson and her husband Kenneth, son Dennis Nance, granddaughter, Darla (Jackson) Barar and her husband Peter, grandson Jeffrey Jackson and his wife Kimberly; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Noah Barar; his sisters Debra (Nance) Ferguson and her husband Mark, Darlene (Nance) Blasco and her husband, Francisco Blasco. And numerous relatives he found doing his genealogical research.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda; his parents, Doris Crosby and Earnest Nance; and his great-granddaughter, Catherine.
Ernie’s memory will be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
