Dorothy C. Powell-Traugott

1940-2018

Dorothy (Dottie) Powell-Traugott age 77 went to be with our heavenly father January 24, 2018 in Bastrop, TX. She was born March 14, 1940 to Weldon and Beatrice (Tabor) Carlisle in Marquez, TX.

Dorothy was the eldest of 5 siblings that grew up around the Bastrop County. She attended both Elgin and Bastrop ISD. Her and her family moved to Austin in the late 50's, and then in 1960 she had the first of 4 children. In 1972 her and her husband (John Powell), and family moved to the Blanton Community between Covington and Blum where she then raised her family. She was a hard worker; there was a time when she held 3 jobs at one time; a school worker, a bus driver, and a CNA at Itasca Nursing Home. She was a very caring woman, a friend, and a mom to all, that her home was open to when anyone needed a place to stay.

In the early 80's John and her divorced. She then made a trip to Austin, TX to visit family where she ran into an old acquaintance named Travis. They ended up married a couple of years later. Together they owned a business of moving and setting up mobile homes. Dorothy's family was very important to her; she would have gatherings at her house about once a month and all was welcomed. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and looking up/ doing genealogy with her sister. She loved and lived life to the fullest.

Dorothy is survived by 2 sons; Eugene Naven of Blum, Jeffery Powell (Phyllis) of Arlington, a daughter Brenda Heckman(Lawrence) of Cedar Creek, a daughter-in-law Carol Naven of Austin. As well as 2 sisters; Bonnie Keeley(Dave) of Havre, MT, Shirley Clark of Buda, and 2 brothers; Joe Carlisle of Beaumont, TX; Jimmy Carlisle of Austin, TX; 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren , as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her father; Weldon Carlisle and wife Hazel Carlisle, mother; Beatrice Carlisle, brother baby boy Carlisle, Husbands; John Powell and Travis Traugott, and a son Allen Naven.

A celebration of life will be held March 10, 2018 at Marrs-Jones Newby in Bastrop, TX at 12:00pm and a reception & lunch will follow at the VFW Hall Post 2527. 1503 FM 20 Bastrop, TX 78602.

The family would like to thank all the nurses, aides, and staff at Bastrop Lost Pines Nursing Home & Rehab Center for caring for Dorothy while she was there.
