-------THE FAMILY REQUESTS THAT ANY GUESTS COMING TO SERVICES FOR MRS. PATTERSON PLEASE WEAR A MASK DUE TO THE CURRENT COVID OUTBREAK------
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Barbara Diane Patterson of Bastrop, Texas, who went to be with our Lord at the age of 83 years on December 26, 2022, after a brief illness.
The family will receive family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023 at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home with a rosary at 6pm. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023 at Ascension Catholic Church, 804 Pine Street in Bastrop, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery, 1307 State Highway 95.
Born on January 22, 1939, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to David James McNeill Sr., and Ruth Hoerner McNeill, Diane graduated from Galena Park High School and attended the University of St. Thomas. On November 11, 1961, she married Micheal Patterson and together they raised three children, Jeff, Scott, and Lisa.
Her faith was deeply important to Diane and brought her great joy. She was previously a parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Galena Park, Texas; a founding member of Saint Hyacinth Catholic Church in Deer Park, Texas; and was most recently a parishioner at Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop. At St. Hyacinth, Diane served for several years as the Director of Religious Education, while her wonderful voice made a cherished contribution to both the St. Hyacinth Church Choir and the Archdiocesan Choir of Galveston-Houston. In 1979, she was recognized for her years of Service and Fidelity to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and the Church by being awarded the Bishop Morkovsky Award.
Diane truly lived her faith. As a congressional staff member for U.S. Representative Ken Bentsen, she often said her greatest satisfaction came from providing assistance to those who needed help. Diane was also politically active as a long-time member of the Harris County Area 5 Democrats and serving as a precinct election judge for the Harris County Democratic Party.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers; David J. McNeill Jr. and Donald J. McNeill.
She is survived by her husband, Micheal; her children, Jeff, Scott, and Lisa; five grandchildren; her sister, Cassandra Hunter and husband, Joe; sister-in-law, Kay McNeill, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves countless friends and loved ones. Diane will be remembered as a loving, caring, and devoted mother and friend. While her loss leaves a hole in our lives, we take comfort in knowing that Diane is with her loving Father in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Diane's name online to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or by phone at (800) 608-3023.
