Deah’dra Anne Cummings of Cedar Creek, Texas passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the age of 77. She was born on December 16, 1946 in Dallas, Texas to Theodore and Bobbie Cummings.
She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Deah’dra was filled with adventure, warmth, generosity, and love. She saved and fed every furry creature that crossed her path.
Deah’dra attended Spring Branch High School in Houston where she excelled in her studies and enhanced her talents in poetry and music.
She attended Sam Houston University where she majored in music and sang in the choir. After 3.5 years she left Sam Houston when she was selected to join the International Cast of Up with People where she traveled the country and the world. After touring with Up with People, she joined their Pace Magazine staff in Los Angeles California as an interviewer and photographer.
With her interest in the Space Program, Deah’dra left California to join NASA to work the Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz and Space Shuttle missions. Receiving awards for her work during Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz and Shuttle missions.
Between Apollo missions and the beginning of the Shuttle missions, Deah’dra joined NBC in Rockford Illinois as a live and studio camera person. She covered news, community and sporting events. She also produced and starred in the station’s nightly news weather window.
As a Non-Commissioned Officer in the US Coast Guard Reserves, she was active in the NCOA Run for the Special Olympics and received an award from the Joseph P Kennedy Jr. Foundation.
During her second time working at the Johnson Space Center, Deah’dra digitized all the Apollo films & photos, edited Space Shuttle and Space Station video, produced numerous NASA videos and even served as an underwater photographer for astronaut space suit training.
Deah’dra had a lifetime lover of horses. Her horse Gulliver was her companion for 30 years across multiple cities and adventures.
Deah’dra is preceded in death by both parents, and her sister Carolyn Cain. She is survived by her spouse Deborah DeHay, her brother West Womack (and Kimberly Womack) nephew Westin Womack and many close friends whom she loved dearly.
