Billy Smiley

October 27, 1929 — June 9, 2018

Billy "Bill" Gene Smiley, a resident of Bastrop, Texas, passed away
on June 9, 2018 at age 88. He was born on Oct 27, 1929 in
Mineola, TX.

For over 35 years, Bill worked in the insurance industry as a District
Manager, retiring in 1989. He was an avid gardener, growing more
vegetables than he needed so he could share them with family and
friends. He was a kind hearted and religious man, and was the best
father and grandfather anyone could ask for. He loved road trips,
traveling throughout much of the United States in his RV, with Alaska
and the Western United States being among his favorite travel
destinations. He also enjoyed fishing, especially at the Lake O' the
Pines in East Texas.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Smiley
(the mother of his children), and one sister and four brothers.

He is survived by his second wife Charlotte Smiley of Bastrop. His 4
children Sue Ellen Nutt (David) of Bastrop, Billy Gene Smiley Jr. (Karen)
of San Antonio, Gail Lynnette Crews (Rick) of San Marcos and Marlette
Alexander (Ricky) of Needville as well as 11 grandchildren and
10 great grandchildren.


Visitation will be from 9:00am to 11:00am on Thursday,
June 14, 2018 at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop.
A Celebration of Life will be 11:00am Thursday, June 14, 2018
at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home with burial following in
Fairview Cemetery, Bastrop.
