Alma Probst

Alma Bartsch Probst, 101, of Rockne, TX passed away peacefully April 4th, 2019 with her children by her side. She was born January 13th, 1918 to the late John and Sophie (Hoffman) Bartsch.

She is predeceased by her husband Joe, son-in-law Richard Petty, infant granddaughter Karen Louise Probst, sister Olga Willhelm and brothers Adolph and Vernon.

She is survived by her daughters Alinda Darilek (Charlie), Imelda Petty, Gerri Martinez (Cecil) and her sons Lloyd (Penny) and Bernard Probst. Also survived by her sister-in-law Minnie Bartsch. She leaves behind ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. They all feel blessed to have fond and enjoyable memories with such a special grandma: time on her farm, lunch every Sunday at her house, great cooking, baking, her love for plants and thoughtful letters.

Alma was a woman of strong Catholic faith, active in Sacred Heart Parish: St. Anne's Society, Catholic School PTA, and 4-H club leader. She worked in the kitchen at annual church bazaars and spring festivals. She donated her time and energy dressing dolls for the doll booth, provided baked goods and award-winning plants for sale and for the auction. She showed boundless kindness and support to grieving families and provided and arranged food for the families of the sick and deceased. She often enrolled her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and fellow parishioners in Spiritual Bouquets. She always reminded us of the power of prayer and prayed her rosary every day at 3pm until she was no longer able.

Alma and Joe raised their children in Rockne. They provided for their family by working their land. One of their main sources of income was gathering their pecans and selling them every fall. They raised chickens and sold the eggs to Long's Grocery in Bastrop. They had a large vegetable
garden. Alma and her daughters canned the vegetables to last all year. After their children were grown, Joe and Alma ran a registered home day care from 1968 to 1989. She cared for sixteen children who always called her "Aunt Alma". Over the years they all stayed in touch with her.

After Joe's passing in 2000, she continued to stay active in the parish. She spent her days baking. There were always cookies to eat and you always left with a coffee cake. She continued to can some and if you visited, you left with pears, green beans, or jellies. But her pride and joy was her
magnificent greenhouse (thanks to the handiwork of her son Bernard). You never left without enjoying the beauty of it or with cuttings in hand. Besides sharing her baked goods and plants with those she held dear, she also won many first place and grand champion ribbons exhibiting her cookies, canned jellies, and plants at the Bastrop County Homemakers Association.

Her last three years were spent in hospice care at Bastrop Lost Pines NH/Rehab. Rarely a day went by that at least one of her children were not by her side. However, we are forever indebted to the staff there. They showed her great compassion and love.

The family mourns the loss of a devoted mother and grandma. She has left us all with a great example to follow for our lives.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 from 6 PM - 8 PM with Rosary at 7 PM at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home, Bastrop, TX. Funeral Mass and Burial Thursday, April 11th, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockne, TX.
