Willie L. Schlickeisen, 83, of Bastrop, Texas, died Monday, January 24, 2022, at his home.
Willie was born on March 13, 1938, in Taylor, Texas and was the only son of Willie F. Schlickeisen and Menilla (Nell) Kaatz Schlickeisen. He married Patricia (Patsy) Winkler on May 24, 1969, and had spent 51 years as her loving husband until her passing in February 2021.
Willie retired in 1993 from his vocation as a high school teacher after 32 years in the profession at Travis High School and Crockett High School in Austin, where he taught world history and sociology. He was appreciated for his warm and humorous personality, and he enjoyed connecting with and engaging students through stories and experiences. During his retirement years, he kept busy as a long-time board member of the Bastrop Public Library, as a member of Ascension Catholic Church where he served as a lector and member of the Knights of Columbus, as an avid gardener and horticulture enthusiast, and artist. He was a member of the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild and painted and displayed many acrylic landscapes in Bastrop and at local arts and crafts shows.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Nell; beloved wife, Patsy; and infant son, Adam Paul.
Willie is survived by his daughter, Erica Schlickeisen (Todd) Tietjen; his son, Ryan (Samantha) Schlickeisen; his grandsons, Hance and Errol Tietjen; and his sister, Billie J. Repa.
Willie passed away peacefully surrounded by loving caregivers and his family. He will be remembered as a creative and enthusiastic educator, mentor, husband, dad and friend whose positive presence made an impact on those he met, and he will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 29, 2022, from 9:45am-10:45am in the chapel of Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop followed by a graveside service at 11:00am in Fairview cemetery.
