February 6, 1971 - April 15, 2023

Cory Shayne Abernathy, 52, died Saturday, April 15, 2023 at his home in Rosanky, TX after a valiant battle with cancer.  Cory had made his career in the construction and paving industry.  He was Equipment Manager for Lone Star Paving of Austin, TX.

Cory was born February 6, 1971 to Bill and Sandi Abernathy at the Jacksonville FL Naval Base.  He spent the majority of his life in the Austin area and attended Crockett High School, studied at Austin Community College, and obtained various career related certifications.

Cory’s career was born from his love of cars and trucks from a very young age and a love for Hot Wheels.  He had an extensive collection of Hot Wheels including a Shelby Mustang model personally autographed by Carrolle Shelby at a Meacham Auction.  The past three years his hobby was customizing his rock climbing Jeep,“GOOSE”.  He made frequent trips to Hidden Falls in Marble Falls and to Moab National Park, Utah with other rock climbing friends.


Cory is survived by his son Bryan Abernathy, Mother and Stepfather Sandi and Wes Churchill, Father and Stepmother Bill and Ellen Abernathy, Halfbrothers Ryan and Alex Abernathy, Uncle Bill Hammer, Girlfriend Rennoda Capps.

Cory was preceded by Wife Rebecca Sturzl Abernathy and Wife Sarah White Abernathy.


A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, April 29th from 1:00 - 3:00pm at Marrs Jones Newby Funerall Home located at 505 Old Austin Hwy, Bastrop, Texas 78602

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in loving memory of Cory Abernathy
