I served in the Navy.

Ramon Joseph Cook, P.E., 85, died at his home in Sugar Land on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. He goes to join his beloved and sorely missed wife, Doris, who died July 27, 2018.

Ramon was born to Lionel and Elizabeth Galik Cook on November 27, 1933 in Portsmouth, Virginia. His early years were spent in locations worldwide as the family followed Lionel’s duty assignments with the United States Navy.

Following graduation from St. Edward’s in Austin, he joined the United States Navy as a “SeaBee” and served in Japan and Korea. Following his active duty, returned to Austin to join his wife and entered the University of Texas to earn his B.S. in Architectural Engineering.

In 1959 the family moved to San Antonio, where he spent the next 21 years, achieving the position of Chief Engineer for the firm Ewing, Records and Associates. He then worked for various firms as a Professional Engineer in Maryland and Texas, while maintaining his many state Professional Engineer Certificates. He contributed to his industry through papers and presentations and was prized for his input to American Concrete Institute standards. To support clients, he traveled extensively throughout the world to various construction locations to ensure the tools he developed were used safely and efficiently.

Finally settling in Schertz, Texas, he continued his contracting work, and was instrumental in the development, funding, and completion of a new water supply system for the city and several surrounding communities. Following his retirement, he moved to Carriage Inn in Katy, then Atria Senior Living in Sugar Land, Texas.

He is survived by four sons, Christopher, John (Consuelo), Robert (Veronica) and Joseph and four daughters, Kathleen Nicholson (Daniel), Margaret Milstead (Rob), Mary Madden (Bob) and Helen Miskowski (Steve) and daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Cook. He is also survived by one brother, Jerry Cook of Alexandria, Virginia, and three sisters, Marianne Fitzgerald of Austin, Nonie Otto (Peter) of San Diego, California, and Margery Savur (Vivek) of Memphis, Tennessee. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Marie Goertz Cook and his son, Gary Curtis Cook.

Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockne, Texas, at 10:30am on Monday, January 28, with interment to follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery next to his wife Doris.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Rockne Historical Association, 4065 FM 535, Bastrop, TX 78602 (his adopted community family) in his and Doris’ honor would be appreciated.

The family thanks Dr. Ariel Velasco and his staff for their special care and support.
